Our experience at Lake Bastrop – Southshore was “ok”.  While the RV sites themselves are very nice, spaced very well, and well maintained, the enjoyment of our stay was tainted by the extremely hot weekend weather (over 100 degrees).  The heat was made worse by the fact that Lake Bastrop is a “hot” lake.   It is used to cool a local power plant so the water is always warm.  So swimming in the lake was not cool an freshing.

We camped at site number 11.  the site was level side to side, so site setup was easy.  Site 11 has direct access to lake about 30 feet behind the site and is one of the few sites that you can see the lake from the camp site.  We did enjoy some kayaking in the lake and launching from our site was great.

The park is fairly small but has a nice picnic area and swimming area (if you like swimming in hot water).  fishing from the shore is very limited as the trees and brush near the shore are very dense.  The fisherman we spoke with fishing from boats were having great luck in the morning and at dusk.

The bath house and bathrooms were well maintained and clean.  Even in the hot weather, the park was almost full for the weekend.   Lake Bastrop Park is worth visiting, just dont’ do it in the middle of July.
